Heimaeykirkja is a stave church in Heimaey, Vestmannaeyjabær - the biggest and the only inhabited island in the Westman Islands archipelago, off the south coast of Iceland. It is a replica built and consecrated in 2000 for 1000 anniversary of the original church and a gift from Norwegian society to Icelanders. It is built in Holtalen style, common around year 1000. At the time of constructing the church famous Icelandic artists were asked to interpret different Bible verses through paintings. The results now adorn the walls of the church. Altarpiece of the church is an exact replica of the oldest stave church´s altar in Norway.
